Coaching check-in
Two months ago on the day, I told you that I have a coach now, and today I wanted to give a first update on how that’s all going (do note we kicked off the coaching on August 12 so I am ending my 11th week this week). In short: it’s been really great! We email at least every week as a check-in and I can email any time I have additional questions or need anything, and schedule video calls as needed as well though I haven‘t needed to do that for a while now. Any need from feedback and I just sen
Daily iPhone tip #4: Charge AirPods and Apple Watch from your iPhone
This can be useful in a pinch! I never personally needed it, but it's good to be aware of. The USB C port of your iPhone can deliver charge to AirPods and Apple Watch, just plug in a USB C cable and it will start charging. You can use your iPhone 15 and later to charge your AirPods, Apple Watch, or another small device that supports USB Power Delivery at up to 4.5 watts. - If you have another device with a USB-C connector, connect it to your iPhone with a USB-C cable, such as the one included w

Daily iPhone tip #3: Turn on and off Portrait mode after the fact
If you have an iPhone 15 or later, photos with a person, dog, or cat taken in Photo mode can become portraits in the Photos app after the fact. The phone is powerful enough to almost always gather depth information alongside the regular photo, so you can go in and turn the portrait effect on and off. * Go to the photos app * Open any photo taken with iPhone 15 or later, open it in full screen, then if the top right icon shows an "f", you can tap there to turn it on and off: For more, check o

Daily iPhone tip #2: Precision finding
If you own a recent iPhone, you might have missed that you have the latest-generation ultra wideband chip in it. That chip means that you can you use Precision Finding in the Find My-app with other devices with the same chip. So you can for example find a specific person down to the centimeter in a huge crowd of people. And if you also own a newer Apple Watch or AirPods, you can use it to find your phone or AirPods with a lot greater precision. Below video and article explain better how this ac

Daily iPhone tip #1 - Charge fast
Modern iPhones these days can charge really fast, but only when paired with correct accessories. The iPhone 16 models in particular got extra fast in this regard. For maximum charging speed while charging with a cable, use a charger (the thing you plug into the wall) of at least 45w. Only use reputable brands like Belkin, Mophie, Anker or Apple’s own chargers - as long as least 45w. Combine this with a USB C to UCB C cable (an USB A to USB C won’t cut it). The one that comes in the box with the

A must-read iPhone 16 Pro review
Well-known photographer Austen Mann got to take the iPhone 16 Pro with him on a trip to Kenya. He did not get paid by Apple for the trip, he has other sponsors to enable him going on these trips. This is all explained in the beginning of the review. Obviously Apple loaned him an iPhone 16 Pro before it was released hoping he would get a few good shots, but that is a far cry from them actually financing the thing. Anyway. I don't want to post his photos or his various conclusions here, because y

Here are the first 6 things to do after upgrading to iOS 18
While I do think you should read up on all the news of iOS 18 and related updates, here are the must-try things right after updating your device: Short version Here's the overview of the first six things to do after updating: 1. Set up your Home Screen 2. Set up Lock Screen 3. Set up Control Center 4. Organize the new Photos app 5. Explore the new Passwords app 6. Schedule a message to be sent later Home Screen There are major new customization and personalization possible with the

Your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, Mac, Apple TV are getting new features today - here are my favorites
A few hours ago, Apple released their major software updates to the public. I have been running all these major updates as developer betas since back in June, so I want to share my favorite features for each of the new operating systems in order to recommend you all to what to try out, and also encourage you to update as soon as possible! Here's what Apple has released today: * iOS 18 for iPhone * "Customize your iPhone in more ways than ever, stay connected with friends and family, and re

PSA: Don't buy any new wireless chargers right now
The new iPhone 16 line-up supports a new version of MagSafe which increases the speed of wireless charging with 67% on these new models vs the old - 25W versus 15W. That is a big jump and puts wireless charging squarely into fast charge territory - enabling 50% charge in 30 minutes. In order to achieve these new speeds, new chargers will be needed. So if you are looking to buy a new 3rd party MagSafe charger (there are many of them), I would strongly recommend holding off. In a matter and weeks

Glowtime pre-orders and a new Apple Store
A couple of hours ago the global pre-orders for the iPhone 16 lineup of phones opened, and I figured I’d report on my purchases, in the order that I made the purchases. Apple Watch I have owned every generation of Apple Watch since Series 8, as I switched to the Apple Watch Ultra lineup then - I currently own the Ultra 2. I was ready to buy the Ultra 3 this year, but alas no such product exists yet. T uses a Series 7 and we have been considering an upgrade ever since the temperature sensor o

World’s Richest Man Proposes to Rape World’s Biggest Popstar for Not Endorsing Facism
First, let’s talk about Taylor Swifts absolutely awesome endorsement of Harris. It’s very well-articulated, and smartly timed post debate, and ends with an absolutely perfect “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady” sign-off. I am not going to post any link or screenshot of what Elon Musk wrote in response, you can find it easily online, but it was “I can give her a child”. I cannot wait until this poor excuse of a human being gets what’s coming for him. A statement like that should be considered t

Ignore the engagement-hungry headlines and cynism - there’s plenty news in the iPhone 16 lineup
The first 36 hours of reporting after the annual Apple iPhone event has been exhausting. It usually is, but feels worse this year. The takeaway that parts of the tech community seemingly got together and decided to have, is that this year's iPhone are boring and there are limited improvements. So let me counteract that, because it's a cynical and simplistic take. Here’s what actually new in this year’s iPhone lineup, starting with the non-Pro phones: * Camera Control. Cynically called “just

Scoring my Apple Event predictions
So with the Apple Event behind us, its time to score my predictions of what the event would contain. General * ❌ The hardware announcements will be the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3, and AirPods 4 * To my massive disappointment, no Ultra 3 this year. Also the AirPods Max was updated * ✅ They will announce rollout timing of Apple Intelligence * Rollout starts "next month" (October) mentioned * ✅ We will get specific dates for the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, wa

I really hope this latest Apple Watch rumor is incorrect
Been quite a lot of last minute Apple Event rumors these last two days. I won't update my predictions post because they stand for the day they were written, but just to comment: The latest rumor is saying that the Apple Watch Series 10 will be noticeably thinner and get new health sensor to support sleep apnea detection. But at the same time, Bloomberg are saying that there won't be an Apple Watch Ultra 3 this year, just a new color for the Ultra 2. If correct, I would be very disappointed bec

Tech travel gear
As I am this week traveling to Spain for a week for a family union thing, I figured now’s a good time as any to document what I bring with me on most trips in terms of tech. Please note that none of these links are affiliate links - or sponsored in any way. General * iPhone 15 Pro Max, obviously * Apple Vision Pro in its official travel case * iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil * AirPods Pro 2nd gen with USB C * Bellroy Tech Kit (full size) Charging * Anker P

Apple Watch - The ultimate guide to all the options when buying
In this article, I am going to give my recommendations and reasoning for the various choices that you will be faced when having decided to buy an Apple Watch (which is a fantastic decision, by the way. You will not regret it). In summary, you have these choices to make: overall model, case material, case color, case size, with or without cellular, and finally watch band - which is the least consequential choice since they are very easily replace - that is part of the appeal of the watch, to have

Fall TV
I suppose every year is the same, but somehow this fall's TV lineup seems impossibly good and also impossible to be able to keep up with! Here are the shows that I am personally excited about and really want to make time to watch throughout the fall: New So obviously for these shows I don't know that they will be any good, but I am excited for them due to trailers or just prerelease chatter. I intend to post updates on those I do watch and what I think. * The Penguin * "Starring Colin F

Re: ‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly HappensISLA VISTA, CA—In the days following a violent rampage in southern California in which a lone attacker killed seven individuals, including himself, and seriously injured over a dozen others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Tuesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place. “This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these thin

Apple Event Predictions
As we are less than a week away from Apple's "It's Glowtime" event, I figured I should put my stake in the ground with regards to what I expect we will see at this event: General * The hardware announcements will be the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple Watch Series 10 and Ultra 3, and AirPods 4 * The reason I do not expect more than this, is that I fully expect a separate October event with Mac and iPad announcements * They will announce rollout timing of Apple Intelligence * We will get specifi
Sweden just completely removed the tax on airline fares
I am so exhausted by the Trump-ificiation of Swedish politics, but it's been undeniable for a long time now. Our government is currently a coalition of right-wing populist parties supported by a very far-right party. They today all proudly stood up for a press conference and announced that they are fully removing the tax on airline fares - a tax that was implemented in 2018 in order to reduce the climate impact of Swede's traveling by airplane. The tax is paid by the company actually operating

Rings of Power premiere mini-review
Spoiler-free post. Disclaimer: I am a huge Lord of the Rings fan. So I am absolutely the target audience for this show, and can probably be more easily persuaded to liking the show. That said, what a tremendous premiere season two has - I the first three episodes of the season. The show feels sure of itself, wastes no time kicking off and does not wait for the audience to keep up - it expects it to. It’s definitely darker than season 1, but is in no way dark like Game of Thrones / House of Dr
You should be donating blood regularly
Buckle up, this will be a preachy one. If you aren't already, you should regularly donate blood. There are some reasons where that isn't possible or allowed, but the majority of worldwide adults are able to donate blood. I'm ashamed to say, the first time I did this was as recent as in November 2022. Since then I've done it eight times (every 84 days). A friend from my high school years went through a very dramatic medical situation over the last couple of years, where she literally would hav

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - Fundraiser for St. June
Donate to St. Jude now! I’ve been a listener to various shows from the podcast network Relay for many years now, and even longer to Accidental Tech Podcast. This Relay community is awesome for many reasons, but this takes it to the next level. In September every year, all the shows and the people in the network come together do a massive drive to raise money to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - but it is also a month where this community drop

Trying out Apple Intelligence's "Clean Up" feature
Yesterday Apple released iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 3, and with it came the previously announced “Clean Up” feature in the Photos app. You simply hit the edit button, choose the new Clean Up tool, and the photo will in a second analyze and show areas it would do a good job removing automatically. If you click one of the highlighted areas, it gets instantly removed and replaced with a generated background. It works incredibly well. Below a video of it in action on my own photo.

Apps that everybody should have on their iPhone
The title is a bit click-bait-y, because in reality this list will be more like "if you are interested in this kind of thing, you should have this app". I.e. I will be recommending workout apps, but I don't actually think "everybody" should have those workout apps if that isn't something you are interested in. Anyways. Here we go! Travel * ABRP - if you have an EV, essential app. Means "A Better Route Planner" and that is exactly what it is. Pick what car you drive and where you are going a

Shot on iPhone - stock app, no gimbals, extra lenses, or filters
This is definitely the most impressive "Shot on iPhone" video to date, due to its "vanilla nature". Faruk Korkmaz, creator of the video over on his YouTube channel: Shot on iPhone 15 Pro Max. No gimbal, extra lens or filter is used. I shot all the footage using the stock camera app to an external drive in ProRes format. Edited in Final Cut Pro X. I put this video together from over 1000 video clips I shot between September 2023 and August 2024. The 3 minute video is well worth your time, if no

Auto-response available for "AI image editing is just Photoshop!" shouters
The Verge has a fantastic article that is meant to be sent as a default response on social media and elsewhere to people who say that AI image editing is just Photoshop and not a concern. It successfully deals with the below arguments and even if you already agree with the premise of the article, I suggest you read it and put it in your bookmarks for quick linking in the future: * “You can already manipulate images like this in Photoshop” * “People will adapt to this becoming the new normal”

Excited for "Glowtime"
Apple this evening (Swedish time) announced that it will hold its annual iPhone event on September 9 (I very much expected September 10), so in exactly two weeks' time. I am very much looking forward to it. I expect I'll be having an iPhone 16 Pro Max and an Apple Watch Ultra 3 on pre-order by Friday September 13. Rumor-wise, I am most excited about: * Capture button * 48-megapixel Ultra Wide lens * A potential new Apple TV * Any new health features for the Watch I am seeing some terrible

I have a coach now.
Yep! I have a coach now. “A life coach!?” You ask? Ah, no. It’s a training coach! I’ve been a longtime reader and follower of everything by Stronger by Science (purchased one of their training programs back in 2016) and I’ve eyed a coach subscription in the past but ended up not going for it mostly for financial reasons. But becoming a parent has put a strain on my workout regime to say the least. During parental leave but especially after returning to a busy work life and then balancing that

The Onion membership
This week I became a member/subscriber to The Onion who has recently gone through a major revamp. It started as I listened this week's The Decoder episode where Nilay interviews The Onion new CEO and CFO which was first of all just a great, entertaining, insightful and funny interview. Strongly recommend a listen. It also pushed me to became a member! Because I've always enjoyed what The Onion does (who doesn't) and now there is a clear way to support a comedy institution. And it's "pay what yo

Heading to Cupertino and WWDC
Due to highly fortunate circumstances, I am for (non-Apple-related) work reasons travelling to San Francisco in the very week of WWDC, arriving Sunday evening before the Monday keynote. Currently waiting at the Stockholm Arlanda airport for the first leg to Copenhagen where I'll board the long flight to SF. It's my first flight since I bought Apple Vision Pro so I will admit I am very excited for that long flight as I've loaded it with movies and tv to watch. I hope to not have seat partners th

Voted.
For the 5th time in my life, I am very happy to have cast my vote in the European elections 2024. I voted for the party I feel best aligns with real plans for climate action and who stand firmly against the right-wing bullshit - and that bullshit includes all the parties currently in government in Sweden. I definitely have the sense that the EU election is even more important than our national one, and I don't have any issues with that. I love the EU. It's a great thing in principle, it just ne

56% market share-haver needs protection from the 4th largest competitor
I doubt anybody have missed that EU today fined Apple 1.8 billion EUR after Spotify complained they have to pay money to Apple for being on the App Store. Yes, I find it ridiculous. Spotify is an enormous company, they have 56% of the streaming music market in the EU and Apple comes at forth place behind also Amazon Music and YouTube Music. But Apple is being anticompetitive? Not very successfully so in that case. I urge everybody to turn their cynicism level down and then read Apple’s stateme

Podcasts I listen to, 2024 edition
I spend a lot of time every day and week listening to podcasts while walking, working out, doing chores - basically anytime I have the chance. There’s way too many great podcasts out there and I wish I had even more time to listen, but I figured I would share which ones I do listen to and which are my favourites. Religiously Meaning, I don’t miss a single episode, ever. * Accidental Tech Podcast (ATP) * I doubt I even have to mention it! * “Three nerds discussing tech, Apple, program
Currently watching: Curb your Enthusiasm, Shōgun, Masters of the Air
As always, I can't find enough time to watch all the TV I want to see, but currently I am keeping up with Curb ( I will be very sad when it ends after this season) and Masters of the Air. I've watched only the first episode of Shōgun. Extremely strong start, it was very hard to not jump into the next episode but I had to go to sleep. I expect already that this will go on the Top 2024 list, but we shall see.
Mini-review: Fargo Year 5
I really loved this season. I unfortunately have to admit to never finishing Season 4, I just wasn’t able to connect with it. Season 5 was certainly the best since season 1.

The story of when I bought Apple Vision Pro and gifted Tim Cook a Tim Cook t-shirt

I splurged (and why I love the Apple Watch Ultra)
I finally caved. Six months too late, in hindsight. The combination of recent episodes of Connected and AppStories and my recent trip to U.S. meant I could no longer hold back. What did I do?

Jon Stewart dismantles Oklahoma State Senator on guns (and drag show bans)
This video is going around the internet, but if you didn’t come across it yet or didn’t bother to watch it yet - just do it. If you have Apple TV+, you should just watch the whole episode as it’s great, but if you don’t - you can watch at least the ending interview in full for free. My favorite exchange: (N being Nathan Dahm, the state senator, and J being Jon Stewart) * N: “They can exercise their freedom of speech, but not in front of a child.” * J: “Why?” * N: “Because the government doe

Gasoline Car Review
“The next morning I tried to start the car but nothing happened. Troubleshooting took a while, but I eventually figured it out: A gasoline car needs gasoline and electricity to run! Apparently the headlights didn’t automatically turn off after I left the car. This meant that the car’s tiny battery lost its charge and couldn’t turn the gasoline engine on.” - Geoff Greer: Gasoline Care Review This was hilarious. And spot on. Read it: Gasoline Car ReviewI recently purchased a Mazda Miata. This ca

Apple first quarter result commentary
Apple yesterday released their first quarter results and a quarterly revenue of $117.2 billion, and while this was a 5% decrease from last year, it was also the second largest quarter in Apple’s history. Their installed base crossed 2 billion active devices and hit all-time high for all major product categories. Services set a new all-time revenue record. Highlights * $117.2 billion in revenue – the second largest quarter Apple has ever had * Total profit of $30 billion – also the second-m

An unexpected launch and my first Apple purchase in 2023!
Apple is killing it with surprises so far this week, and today dropped a new generation of the full-size HomePod! I wouldn’t have guessed this even after many attempts, and while I was well aware of the rumours flying around about a future HomePod/Apple TV/iPad combination and so on, I felt pretty sure they had given up on the regular HomePod. I couldn’t be happier to be wrong about this! I own two of the original HomePods (and three HomePod minis), one of them bought in 2017 and the other in 2

Quick comments on today’s Apple announcements
Apple today launched new version if it’s 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops as well as a new Mac mini, alongside introducing two new chips: the M2 Pro and the M2 Max. The machines are looking great, and I am in the market for a new Mac mini as I have a 2014 model right now (runs some always-on stuff I need like HomeBridge). I have been holding off upgrading because of the M2, and as a bonus they even lowered the starting price - and I don’t need anything besides the entry-level model (I may upg

My 2022 in health and fitness
Using an app I can very much recommend - Fitness Totals (not an affiliate or tracked link), I generated the above summary of my health & fitness in 2022 vs 2021. The data is generated from the fact that I wear an Apple Watch Series 7 really 24/7 except the 30-45mins it spends every morning on the fast charger as I get ready for the day, then all of this is of course synced to Apple Health which then feeds the Fitness Total app widgets. All-in-all, I am not very satisfied with the outcome here,

‘It’s a dangerous thing isn’t it - to mistake speaking without thought, for speaking the truth.’
I am well aware that I am both very late and also very un-original in picking this up - but what an epic quote. Spoken by Daniel Crag in character as Benoit Blanc in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" and the quote should be attributed to writer Rian Johnson I assume. You should watch the movie, it's fantastic, but barring that you can check out the clip of the scene in question. (warning: That's a link to Twitter[1]). 1. My Apple Home/Homekit setup
This post is a work in progress! Intro As reference as well as hopefully inspiration, here I will try to lay out my Apple Home/HomeKit setup. I will keep this post updated periodically. Some basics first of all. Me, T and V live in a two bedroom apartment of 81 square meters (872 square feet). One of the bedrooms is used as my office. It has one bathroom and the kitchen and living room are combined as one large space. Home hubs and bridges * Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) * HomePod mini x3 *

Apple TV+ Shows, Ranked
This post will be continutally updated as new shows are released and I watch them! This is a live document This is my very personal and highly subjective ranking of the Apple TV+ shows I've watched so far. I'll be updating and adjusting this post as time goes on. Overall Best Shows This is me trying to rank all the shows, across all categories. This is very difficult, because it makes it look like "For All Mankind" isn't one of my favourite shows - but it truly is! It's just that there is so

My favorite and must-see TV of 2022
Not an easy year to make this list, because there’s been so much good TV. So the list ends up long, and the list is not in order. If I could only pick one show, I’d pick Severance but it’s a tight race. Cost of giving birth in Sweden
Invoice for the birth of our child just received. We spent 3 nights at the hospital, and beyond the birth itself we had 24/7 access to midwives etc helping out with breast feeding and everything else for two extra nights, staying in our own private room with bathroom and shower, and food FREE for all meals (and heavily discounted for me) and any accessories provided as well (diapers etc). During the birth we had 2 doctors and 4 midwives actively engaged. Statistically, Sweden is one of the ab

I'm a dad!
On November 26, I became a dad when this beautiful little boy was born. It’s been a crazy less than 3 weeks, but I’m incredibly proud, happy and grateful. I may or may not have more profound things to say about this in the future - I’m new here and still getting comfortable!
