I am so exhausted by the Trump-ificiation of Swedish politics, but it's been undeniable for a long time now.

Our government is currently a coalition of right-wing populist parties supported by a very far-right party.

They today all proudly stood up for a press conference and announced that they are fully removing the tax on airline fares - a tax that was implemented in 2018 in order to reduce the climate impact of Swede's traveling by airplane. The tax is paid by the company actually operating the flight, but obviously they have been passing it on to consumers.

The total tax has been between 76 and 504 Swedish kronor (about 7-50 USD) depending on destination.

Now, they are removing it, "to help low and middle class families". They are quoted as saying, in this press conference, "Yes it will impact the environment and pollution in that sense, but that is something we need to look at in the future". Great.

I cannot wait until we throw this government out, hoping for a UK-style sweep for the left-leaning parties in our next election in 2026, which I doubt will happen, but I am hoping.
