Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - Fundraiser for St. June

I am side-stepping my policy on never using YouTube embeds on this website, this cause is more important than the privacy of this page

I’ve been a listener to various shows from the podcast network Relay for many years now, and even longer to Accidental Tech Podcast. This Relay community is awesome for many reasons, but this takes it to the next level.

In September every year, all the shows and the people in the network come together do a massive drive to raise money to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - but it is also a month where this community drops a ton of cash on new tech since it’s new iPhone season. So, as a way to offset some of the guilt to buying new phones every year, why don’t we also take some of that cash and do something good at the same time?

Since 2019, the Relay community has raised an incredible $2.9 million for St. Jude. That’s wild. It’s a community of geeky podcasters and their listeners, and its money going to one of the most important missions in the world.

If your child has cancer, St. Jude will be there for you, and you will never receive a bill — no strings attached.

St. Jude is a truly awesome institution that saved the life of one of Relay’s co-founders kids when they were little and got cancer. Unlike most hospitals, the majority of their funding comes from donors. Regardless, this is a worthwhile cause. St. Jude do this for so many families every year - all 100% free for the families involved. On top of that, they lead research into child cancer and share it with the world and have been a big part of pushing U.S. survival rates from 20 to 80%.

It is very hard to find a better cause to give money toward, as literally every dollar goes to help kids with cancer get better and hopefully cured - and St. Jude will not rest until no child dies from cancer, anywhere in the world.

"Join Relay and St. Jude this September for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Together, we can help cure childhood cancer. Our cause unites all!"

Now I really want to encourage you to help me drive more donations to this great cause and donate to my campaign! 100% of proceeds obviously goes to St. Jude, this is just gamification and making it more fun that we have our own campaigns and so on.

If you have just 1 dollar to donate, that‘s amazing. Donate what you can, small and big donations are all needed. It’s fast and easy to do.

The approach in the community is to set the minimum donation to whatever you spend as extras when buying a new iPhone. Many people throw in for example AppleCare+, a new case, a new charger, in U.S. you have to add tax, and so on. So whatever that total comes to: that is your minimum donation.

But like I said. 1 dollar is also great. 5 is better. 50 is amazing. Important part is, what you can spare can then be used for much better when given to this cause.

About St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Our mission is clear: Finding cures. Saving children.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – so they can focus on helping their child live.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped increase the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since we opened more than 50 years ago. We won’t stop until no child dies from cancer.
St. Jude shares the breakthroughs it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors.
